Nuclear Stress Testing

We offer state of the art computer and imaging equipment and a staff that is highly trained and experienced in the technology of nuclear cardiology.

The purpose of this procedure is to evaluate blood flow to the heart and to identify a patient who may be at risk for a heart attack.

The medication that enables us to image the heart is called Myoview. It contains a very small amount of radioactivity. Myoview has no side effects.

ECG electrodes will be attached to the chest and a blood pressure cuff will be placed on the arm. These allow the physician to monitor the heart rate and blood pressure during the test. At this point, an I.V. will be started.

We then perform either exercise treadmill stress testing or pharmacalogic testing with the use of Adenosine or Dobutamine for patients who cannot exercise. At peak exercise Myoview will be injected into the I.V. and the patient will continue to exercise for an additional minute or two.

Patient will then lie down on a special table. Pictures will be taken of the heart using a camera able to trace the Myoview that has localized in the heart.

The entire procedure will take approximately 2 hours. Patients are advised to refrain from caffeine and dairy products for 12 hours and to wear comfortable clothing and rubber soled shoes.
